What is Health Coaching?

Why is it needed today?

Over 65% of adults have one chronic disease today, more than 40% have two or more, and >80% of us are “metabolically” unhealthy, which means they’re at risk for heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Doctors, nurses and cardiologists cannot treat these vast numbers of sick people, which is why waiting to see them can last more than a year.

Why has this happened?

Within a single generation, what is it that we’ve all done? What do we all have in common? The answer, of course … is today’s modern lifestyle.

Right now, Canada faces a chronic disease epidemic, which is a lifestyle epidemic.

Full of lethargic, useless tasks, being sedentary, dealing with chronic stress, consuming a horrible diet full of processed food, and, worst of all, little or no exercise, it’s no wonder the US CDC has labeled our modern lifestyle as the “greatest health challenge of the 21st century”.

Most of us are now completely disconnected from our physical brain, which controls our metabolism and how we’re able to respond to our environment. Whereas it responds to our evolutionary need to be active by making us stronger and more vibrant, it also misinterprets the sedentary existence led by so many with disastrous long term health results.

Is coaching right for you?

How does coaching work?

before the first session:

  • In this free consultation, Chris will highlight why the health coaching he offers is unique, what the long-term goals are that it provides and importantly we will have a chat to determine whether you will benefit from it.
  • We will talk about the powerful online private health portal that you will be given access to, the accountability, motivational and communication tools that it offers and how these are key to helping you launch your journey of self-discovery towards the vision of health that you seek.
  • we will discuss what health goals you have had in the past, what challenges you face now and what social support mechanisms you might have in your life to assist you.
  • Basically, we’ll discuss your readiness and motivation for change, and importantly find out if the kind of coaching I provide is right for you, and if we are a good match.
  • if we are, you will purchase a coaching package (individual, couples, group) and then …

Steps 1 & 2 - Setting the GPS & Starting with Success

  • it’s all about “managing what you measure“, in other words when you set your GPS to where you want to go, you need to know where you are now.
  • your private client health portal can only be seen by you, and is a powerful tool with regards to inputting key personal metrics (weight, measurements, photos) and whatever medical data you want.
  • you will be given reading assignments and tasks with clear action points that will allow you to earn points, and will be given accountability support via agreed-upon deadlines with regards to the type of aerobic exercise you choose, and the metrics that you will be tasked with tracking and measuring.
  • you will choose the various motivational tools and strategies provided to you, something that will give you initial momentum during your journey of self-discovery and the time to allow you to develop your own.
  • the reading assignments and video tutorials will help motivate you, and will link aspects of human biology and evolution with the types of things that I emphasise in my health coaching.

Step 3 - Burn fat in a natural way

  • learn to eat in a way that is natural for our bodies.
  • rather than focusing on the what we eat, we will take a radical departure from most diets and focus on the when.
  • we will discuss how engaging support mechanisms with family members and taking stock of what and how we eat is an incredibly easy thing to do, and can set the foundations for long-term healthy eating routines and habits.
  • you will learn how to put your hunger on a schedulebalance your hormones and not have them working against you.
  • you will be given food preparation strategies that helps take the decision-making out of what you eat, and importantly still allows you to consume calories from sources that you prefer.

Step 4 - Burn fat by building more muscle

  • aerobic exercise is the key to great aging, however both weight and strength training is very important when you’re older too.
  • you will learn that you don’t have to dedicate your life to transforming your body; this is something you can do in much less time than you think, even in your spare time if you really want to follow Chris’ blueprint.
  • you will learn how to further increase your metabolism with time-efficient and opportunistic full-body workouts that you can work into your weekly schedule.
  • the circuitsexercises and strength-training routines you will learn can be done with others, on your own, in a gym or at home and will lead to the learn muscle growth that will cut your workout times so that they are done both very efficiently and effectively.
  • Chris will show you how you can become toned and muscular in your spare time, something that he has been doing opportunistically for more than 30 years.

Step 5 - Systems = Sustainability

  • having a self-sustainable healthy lifestyle means having good systems and routines in place.
  • your empowerment with regards to how you’re prioritising your time, and being accountable to yourself with regards to improving and maintaining your health, will continue upwards as you look to automate your preferred healthy routines and behaviours into your day-to-day routine.
  • with your new mindset about health – that it is important, you can improve it and have the power to make it happen – will allow you to see that exercise and diet aren’t extra things that you have to do, they will be things that are an integral part of who you are and part of the fabric of your life.
