Have you heard of the “long slow rot theory”?

Chris

It’s a traditional view of aging.

One that originated with Sigmund Freud, in 1907, who believed that people over 50 were so beyond their “sell-by-date”, therapy was impossible.

This IS TOTAL BULL$H1T, and NOTHING could be further from the truth.

While our mental and physical skills DO decline over time, it turns out that ALMOST ALL of them are USE-IT-OR-LOSE-IT SKILLS.

In other words, we get to hang onto them, and even advance them, far later in life than anyone thought possible.

(1) → VO2 max → measures the upper-range of our aerobic capacity. If you run up stairs, your VO2 max determines for how long you can do so. Consistent aerobic training can erase declines, and athletic 80-year-olds can be equal to healthy 35-year-olds.

(2) → STRENGTH → muscle fibres begin to decline in numbers at 50, however consistent training and exercise can buffer the overdevelopment of remaining fibres.

(3) → COGNITIVE SKILLS → this decline is optional too … as our brain remains plastic throughout the lifespan, and is reversed through physical and cognitive training.

The fact is that WE HAVE AN UNIMAGINABLE DEGREE OF CONTROL OVER OUR OWN HEALTH, AGING AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE LAST HALF OF IT!

2% of your week.

3 hours.

That’s all it takes.
