an evolutionary spin
So … what do we have to do to take back control of our own health?
The reality is that we have to play on the physical stage
And NO … it doesn’t have to be running, for those that don’t like it, or can’t do it … it just has to be SOMETHING, and it has to be something consistently and not necessarily something that takes a lot of TIME
We have to play, be active, in order to take control of our Darwinian evolutionary bodies, and our minds too.
They are both so intimately wired together that it is useless to think of well-being and health of one without the other.
The message is quite simple.
Everything you do physically …
everything you eat …
everything you think and feel …
every emotion and experience …
changes your body and your brain in physical ways that were set in stone billions of years ago.
Physical exercise and involvement in life trigger great waves of “grow” messages throughout your body and mind.
If you send the right messages, you have billions of years of evolutionary ancestry on your side and that will make you stronger, more agile, flexible, smarter … better able to take the hard knocks … and quicker to rebound from them when they happen.
Exercise is the only way to engage your body and your physical brain, and if you do it regularly enough, you will get “younger”.
Not completely, but to an astonishing degree …
it’s possible to become biologically younger every year until your late 70’s …
think about that …
The reality is that our modern lifestyle sends signals of deadly peril to our bodies and minds, and they respond …
and make deadly changes in response.
And this is one of the most important things of all, which absolutely needs to be understood.
A lack of exercise signals to the body one thing … that you’re heading into …
famine.
In response, excess food is stored as fat, and your body and brain head into a low-grade form of depression, which is a critical survival strategy.
We survived by getting depressed …
survival depressed …
as in let’s slow down the metabolism, build up the fat stores, withdraw, turn inward, hibernate, cut everything back.
Whereas evolution did not plan us to sit all day long, and has made sure that when we are exercising, good stuff happens in our brain and body.
Very good stuff indeed.
Aerobic exercise leads to an amazing existence …
And this is where I could go into a long list … a summary … of what it does for you.
This is a list that – if you printed it off …
having one posted around the house, where you’ll see it, many people find incredibly motivating, ESPECIALLY when you consider that it only takes 2-3% of your week (which is 3.36 – 5.04 hours, of 168!) to make a HUGE difference in your long term health & longevity, great aging …
A “pro” list, with all the benefits … would be quite lengthy.
And really there’s no “con” list!!!!!
What would even be ON a con list?
“Tough”? Then see my blog about “picking your crazy” …
“Too little time?” We spend an average of ~6.5 hours a day online!
