The unbelievable control we have of our health over the last third of our lives … part 1 of 5

The notion that behavioural change can have a much more profound impact on wellness, quality of life and aging than anything else during the last third of our lives is very much against the grain of traditional medicine.

That might be the case, however no medical professional – ever – has disagreed with it.

Health-wise, here’s what society has taught us to believe: 

Youth comes with a “free ride” of health, during which our bodies, minds and spirits are fully charged and ready to support us, no matter what our lifestyle is like. 

At some point, however, this free ride is over. 

Suddenly, whatever “life current” is at our backs at youth, is suddenly against us. 

When we get into our 40’ and 50’s, we get a little weaker, our balance is off, the bones get frail, our hips and lower backs start to hurt a lot, and we frequently get tired.

The more unfortunate features of today’s disease epidemic – obesity, diabetes, strokes, heart disease and common cancers – are simply bad luck, and part of the increasing risks associated with getting older.

If this is normal aging, it’s both intolerable, avoidable, a big commercial lie designed to get us to buy “youth solutions”, and … total BS.

Recently, the advances in cellular biology have opened the door to healthy aging.

Now in the midst of new revolutionary biology, we have new insights into how our bodies actually work. 

The science behind it – fields as diverse as cell and protein physiology, biochemistry, evolutionary and exercise physiology, ecology and comparative neuroanatomy – all point to an unimagined amount of control, and influence, that we have over the last third of our lives.

The reality is that there is a fundamental revolution at hand in the way people age.
