Quite simply, we have to play on the physical stage in order to take control of our Darwinian evolutionary bodies …
… AND our minds too … they are obviously intimately tied together, so it’s a pointless exercise to think of well-being, and health, of one without the other.
The message behind all of this:
- the control we have over our overall, and especially our cardiovascular health, which is responsible for more than ONE THIRD of all human deaths each year –
is that EVERYTHING WE DO …
physically
everything we eat
everything you feel, or think
every emotion and experience you have
CHANGES your body and your brain in ways that were set in stone billions of years ago.
(yes … human DNA constitutes only ~10% of the total genome without our bodies … and “yes” the bacteria that inhabits us have been around that long)
So … keeping that in mind …
that the influence our daily routines – our habits – have on our bodies and brains is complete … they both respond to everything we do … in fact, that’s ALL they do … respond to what we get up to …
(1) THE BAD NEWS:
The chronic disease epidemic we’re witnessing today is actually a lifestyle epidemic.
That’s why the signals our bodies and brains send out in response to today’s modern lifestyle are so DEADLY for humans.
WHY, you ask?
In NATURE:
- sittin’ around surfing the internet, which the average Canadian does for >6 hours a DAY, engaged in useless, lethargic tasks
- dealing with the kind of multi-source chronic stress working from home can entail
- living a completely sedentary existence with <1,000 steps of activity at day max (the average is way less than that!)
- never any exercise …
Are interpreted by our bodies and brains as signals of DEADLY PERIL.
